Physical Activity Keeps the Heart Going

A tried and true method of keeping your heart healthy is by practicing living a balanced lifestyle. Nutritious food, regular activities, and social interactions are essential for maintaining proper heart health and avoiding heart disease risk.

Exercising more and sitting less may be the answer to not just achieving a healthy weight but a strong heart too. New findings from the famed Framingham Heart Study address how much exercise you need to stay fit and how that helps your heart.

The study explored the relationship between heart and lung activity during exercise, also known as cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF). As such, researchers included 2,070 individuals to participate in their study by letting them undergo exercise tests on stationary bicycles to measure their CRF.

Experts then found that, not surprisingly, participants, regardless of sex or age, and gender, who were more active and did more moderate-to-vigorous exercise, took more steps, and were less sedentary between the two exam periods showed clear improvements in their CRF. Brisk walking, jogging, and cycling were the activities found to be most effective in maintaining good CRF levels.
